A detailed Log of the recent zombie outbreak near Tomahawk
We’ve been dropped off in some wayward town in the middle of a forest after only a brief rundown of the situation, about 25 of us in count. The buildings are decrepit and abandoned and the place resembles some kind of war zone. Everyone has split up in search of supplies, I lost sight of Ned almost as soon as we entered the zone amongst all of the hustle. I’ve managed to find a small hatchet, a backpack, 3 bottles of water and even a small vial of some strange greenish chemical with “non-carcinogenic mutagen” written on it.
I’ve been hunting zombies for a bit and have so far managed to kill off 2 with this hatchet, they’re actually quite easy to sneak up on if you’re quiet enough. There’s a merchant holed up in a tower looking for information on what’s happening, he has a brother who runs a trading post on the other side of town in a small building surrounding by a large barbed wire fence. I came across a tent in the middle of the forest, next to a bunch of abandoned vehicles, some military looking guys pointed guns at me and told me to leave when I got too close though so I got out of there pretty quick. Later on I had a guy in a red shirt point a shotgun at me while I was searching an abandoned vehicle, I managed to spot him and get away before he could let off a shot though. I’ve decided to maintain my distance from him.
Met up with Ned again, who seems to have allied himself with 3 other survivors. I traded my hatchet to a man for information as I haven’t had much need for it, it seems that military tent is a research facility and they’re looking for samples of some sort. We traded in some DNA swabs after getting tested at a medical facility set up near town, the samples were apparently duds though. They are looking for samples that show a red colour upon testing.
I was almost ambushed by a zombie when I stopped to grab a bottle of water I had found, but managed to dodge out of the way when he came bursting out of the treeline. The others quickly took care of him. The guy I traded my hatchet to just came back with a zombie heart in a bag, god only knows how he got his hands on that. We watched him get decapitated by those military guys because he was “Contaminated”.
We found and handed over some vials of a red chemical called “reagent GN-68” to the researchers. They promised us food and water as well as safe passage to a clean zone as reward but we don’t trust them so far because they simply refuse to communicate with us. We learned afterwards that these samples were duds as well for one reason or another despite their filling the descriptions they gave us. The zombies seem to be growing in number now too.
Came across 3 interesting characters in the last hour. A guy named Rudy is going around trying to incite violence and war amongst the survivors, I’m not sure what his endgame is but he seems to be keen on something in regards to this situation. There’s another merchant, goes by the name of “Mike the Tuque”, interesting fellow and fairly friendly. The last character is a man by the name of Hans, he appears to be a doctor and may be in employ with those military guys, he was going on about something in regards to medical supplies for a treatment of some sort that were stolen and potentially scattered about.
So I’ve found myself a brick… despite its appearance however it is quite the versatile weapon and very easy to hide, my zombie kill count has increased exponentially. I’ve gone back to travelling alone for the most part, only interacting with others for new information or on chance encounters with Ned as he is the only one I can truly trust. We’ve learned that there is a cure for this virus and everyone is scrambling to find the ingredients to synthesize it.
I met back up with Ned and the others, we attempted to hand in the ingredients we gathered but discovered we were short a few, we now have a complete list of what we need and have been told that that complete list is only enough to form a single dose…for one of us… I was also informed that the vial of green liquid I’ve been holding onto all this time could seriously come in hand later on, they would not tell me more than that however.
It’s been several hours and I still only hold 3 of the 6 ingredients, I have taken to hiding them in my socks as well due to the widespread outbreak of survivors killing each other for their loot. Ned and I met up again and he informs me that he already has the cure, showing me a small syringe with a bright green liquid in it. He also handed me a vial of reagent seeing as how he had no need for it, thus putting me one step closer to a cure of my own. We later went to the medical facility to have someone administer the cure to Ned before someone else finds out he has it and attempts to kill him for it. Ned also informs me that there is one other person walking around with a similar syringe.
Roughly 8 hours have passed and still no closer to finding those last 2 ingredients, I refuse to start indiscriminately killing others in search of them yet though. Ned and I are currently assisting a new arrival of survivors in finding supplies and even escorted one to the infirmary to get tested for the virus. We were ambushed by a pack of 5 zombies once inside though and they blocked our only exit. 1 went after Ned and I lost sight of them, but I was too busy dealing with the other 4 to focus too much on that. I quickly downed the first of them with my brick and taunted the other 3 forward. I took the next 2 out quickly as they were quite slow moving and easy to dodge but the last still stood in my path. I managed to duck underneath him when he lunged forward at me and struck him hard in the nose with that brick, making a mad dash out of there. Ned emerged shortly after and we made sure to be more careful from then on.
I got pretty tired from walking around so much and had to hole up in a small bunker for some time to gather my strength. The killing has grown more frequent and the survivors have even split off into 2 large factions, constantly at odds with each other, I’ve kept my distance so as not to get involved but have managed to gain the trust of both sides. One of the factions has taken to killing off newcomers and with each person killed the zombie horde seems to grow. I’ve taken advantage of my political standings in the factions and managed to stay alive thus far.
Traded an extra dose of one of the ingredients I had to the merchant for some food, sneaky bugger gave me a can of soup with no way of opening it. That’s the last time I deal with him. I’ve also discovered the identity of the second survivor in possession of a cure and started hunting her in hopes that she will break off from the pack at some point; I don’t plan to kill her, just take the cure.
With the times growing more dangerous I was in need of an upgrade so I traded my brick and that vial of green chemical to Mike and Rudy for a very large axe, they were tentative at first but eventually accepted the deal. I later witnessed a man cowardly assassinate a woman from behind just to get her loot during another faction battle so I slit his throat with my axe and took his machete, significantly increasing my combat efficiency. I’ve started experiencing headaches and some nausea, probably signs of the virus rearing its ugly head. Time is running out.
I’ve come across a group that has everything to synthesize a cure but I narrowly missed a chance to take it from them, I’ve also discovered that the other girl has since used her syringe and wisely gone into hiding. I haven’t seen Ned in a while and can only hope that he has done the same. The headaches have gotten worse and I’m getting nosebleeds now too, I need to hurry up and find that cure before it’s too late.
Whilst traveling with the group who successfully synthesized a cure, we encountered a survivor I dealt with earlier who seems to trust me greatly as he handed me a shotgun almost immediately upon meeting up. He quickly betrayed the one who was cured thinking he had ingredients and disarmed the other, I slew him without a second thought while he was distracted looting and quickly met a similar fate from the last of us. My wounds are deep and this will probably be my last entry. Looks like my journey ends here.
